{"id":51,"date":"2008-10-31T21:23:01","date_gmt":"2008-11-01T04:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/whatup.brantct.com\/?p=51"},"modified":"2008-10-31T21:23:01","modified_gmt":"2008-11-01T04:23:01","slug":"to-change-a-pin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatup.brantct.com\/?p=51","title":{"rendered":"To change a PIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To change a PIN.<br \/>\nSo here we were.\u00a0 We had just landed in Lima, Peru.\u00a0 My first time in a third-world country.\u00a0 And what do you think one of the first things I did?\u00a0 I lost my debit card.\u00a0 It was clearly not my fault\u2026\u00a0 Marlo had used her card to get cash and I might have given a piece of bad advice so that instead of getting Sols that would be useful in the country that we were currently occupying she ended up with more US $\u2019s.\u00a0 ooops.\u00a0 So she decided that I should use my card to get the sols.\u00a0 No problem.\u00a0 During this discussion we had a chat with and English chap about the exchange rate.\u00a0 We knew what the Chilean peso was at but neither of us had a clue about the sol (2.9\/$).\u00a0 So I put my card in, got 150 sols and left my debit card right there and walked away\u2026\u00a0 no clue how I spaced so badly.\u00a0 Worse then that it took me two days to figure out that I had lost it.\u00a0 Fortunately one smart thing that I did do was copy all of the card numbers and contact numbers if I did have an issue.\u00a0 I cancelled it and had a new card issues (in the us) easily.\u00a0 No help to me here in peru, but no one had used the card and it was fine.\u00a0 I was just not happy about being stupid.<br \/>\nThis bring us to part two of the sage.\u00a0 I still had my wonderful visa signature card.\u00a0 That was the good news.\u00a0 The bad news is that I did not know the PIN.\u00a0 Setting the PIN was on my list of things to do before I left\u2026\u00a0 I did not make it to that item\u2026\u00a0 I did not know the pin.\u00a0 No worries I thought, I have this wonderful signature service.\u00a0 I called them up and told them of my dilemma.\u00a0\u00a0 This call mind you was from my cell phone.\u00a0 I believe that the rate for that call was around $2\/min\u2026 America\u2026\u00a0 so being on hold is even less fun then when it not $2\/min\u2026\u00a0 the first call was ok.\u00a0 She asked me my card number, yes, the one I type in the first time they asked, gave her all the information in the world, and she said she would send me to the automated system to set the pin.\u00a0 I thought I was set\u2026 not.\u00a0 The automated system spit me back out to another customer service rep.\u00a0 I proceeded through THE SAME dance and she connected me to the automated system\u2026\u00a0 the THIRD rep was even more help.\u00a0 At this point I was somewhat agitated.\u00a0 We were sitting in the airport waiting to board a plane and I figured that I could get this done.\u00a0 She told me that there was no way to do this because I was not calling from my home phone.\u00a0 WELL I had changed my number to my cell and it turns out that it takes 30 days for that to be valid for a PIN change.\u00a0\u00a0 I could not get my pin set.\u00a0 Game over\u2026<br \/>\nNow the really good part\u2026\u00a0 she asks me if there was anything ELSE she could do for me, what?!?!?!?\u00a0 I very nicely told her that she didn\u2019t do anything for me in the FIRST PLACE so she SHOULD ask me if there is anything that she can ACTUALLY help me with.\u00a0 The answer was no\u2026<br \/>\nThe moral of the story is this\u2026 make sure all that pin business is set before you leave home.\u00a0 ALSO, one additional little tidbit\u2026\u00a0 if your PIN on your debit card is over four digits, it may not work in foreign countries.\u00a0 Try it BEFORE you really need it!\u00a0 Yes, Lauren this means you :&gt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To change a PIN.
