{"id":223,"date":"2009-03-13T16:37:35","date_gmt":"2009-03-13T21:37:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/whatup.brantct.com\/?p=223"},"modified":"2009-03-13T16:37:35","modified_gmt":"2009-03-13T21:37:35","slug":"paris-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatup.brantct.com\/?p=223","title":{"rendered":"Paris 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Things are already beginning to blur, what we did what day.\u00a0 This blogging thing is a bit of a chore, but I want to do it and I know that there are a couple of people out there that appreciate it\u2026<br \/>\nSo we saw the arc.\u00a0 Actually we see the arc all of the time because we are staying right down the road from it.\u00a0 It is 200 feet tall, but we still lose track of it.\u00a0 There are tall buildings with narrow streets, so you can\u2019t see far.\u00a0 There are also tiny, tiny, tiny cars everywhere.\u00a0 As Marlo haphazardly crosses streets she is not even scared of them.\u00a0 It seems as if they would jus fall over and give up if they hit you :&gt;<br \/>\nSo, we walked our butts all the way over to the Eiffel Tower.\u00a0 It is a lot bigger up close, but then again, what isn\u2019t \u2026\u00a0 we climbed the steps to the second floor and walked around.\u00a0 The view was great.\u00a0 Then we walked the steps to the third floor\u2026\u00a0 someone wanted to take the lift (that\u2019s the elevator for you yanks\u2026), but we took the stairs\u2026\u00a0 then we had to take the elevator to the third floor.\u00a0 It was windy and cold\u2026\u00a0 we walked around, took pictures and enjoyed the view.\u00a0 Tag, Eiffel Tower, done!\u00a0 We cabbed it back to the hotel and napped for a bit\u2026\u00a0 ok, several hours and then we went to the Latin quarter\u2026 oh, but wait, we were talking to a couple of girls from Boston college, sophomores\u2026\u00a0 ok, what college sophomore can afford to go to Paris for spring break????\u00a0 Anyway we were talking to them at every turn ov the line\u2026\u00a0 you know one of those serpentine lines that wraps in on itself to the destination\u2026\u00a0 anyway behind them were some other people.\u00a0 There were two women and two girls.\u00a0 Mom\u2019s and their daughters\u2026\u00a0 one of the mothers looks at us and tells us that they have college students too\u2026\u00a0 ok, ok, we will talk to you too\u2026.????\u00a0 After a bit it made sense.\u00a0 She thought that the first girls were our daughters, so she was looking to make friends for their kids\u2026\u00a0 it was funny the way she said it though\u2026 hey we have college kids too, talk to us :&gt;\u00a0 we did talk to them.\u00a0 I think they were going to school in Indiana.\u00a0 They told us how they went dancing in the Latin quarter until four in the morning and slept until two\u2026\u00a0 that sounded good to us\u2026\u00a0 so after the tower, Marlo wanted to go for a boat ride on the Seine.\u00a0 So we did.\u00a0 It was pretty good.<br \/>\nNow, little did we know, the bus tour that we booked actually included the Eiffel tower AND the boat tour, ooops, no biggy.<br \/>\nWe went into a restaurant and they had a\u00a0 menu in English.\u00a0 Many places were closed and it was only midnight\u2026\u00a0 we found a decent place and were intimidated by the pushy waiter\u2026\u00a0 I ordered some snails and Marlo ordered the cheese plate, aren\u2019t we such the Parisians :&gt;\u00a0 the snails were good, they were in garlic and oil.\u00a0 Now what can be really bad soaking in garlic and oil\u2026\u00a0 the bread was had and crusty.\u00a0 I asked for some fresh bread.\u00a0 Fortunately they understood enough English.\u00a0 Now it was 12:05 am.\u00a0 Marlo had been abstaining mostly\u00a0 for the last month or\u00a0 so.\u00a0 The month was up at 12:00 at 12:04 she had a glass of wine.\u00a0 She said that it was really good!&#8230;\u00a0 I waited until noon the next day, actually the same day to break my fast\u2026<br \/>\nI think that was all we did that day\u2026\u00a0 but like I said it is all starting to blur\u2026<br \/>\nMonday\u2026<br \/>\nI actually wrote down the plan for what we were going to do.\u00a0 it was getting confusing\u2026\u00a0 I called it te clipboard of fun.\u00a0 Please comment of that sounds familiar :&gt;<br \/>\nSo Monday was bus tour day.\u00a0 We walked down to the bus office and got our tickets.\u00a0 It was 1:00 and the next tour was at 3:00.\u00a0 We waited.\u00a0 It just so happened (and it just so happened happens a lot to us) that the restaurant with the awesome hot chocolate was right down the way from the bus place.\u00a0 So we decided to have lunch there.\u00a0 Angelina, world famous for their hot chocolate and their desserts.\u00a0 We had both.\u00a0 We also had a lovely glass of champagne\u2026\u00a0 that was also good.\u00a0 I had an omelets and Marlo had a club sandwich. They were both very good.<br \/>\nWhile we were standing in line, we struck up a conversation with the six foot woman behind us.\u00a0 It turns out that she is a fashion editor for Elle magazine and she is here for fashion week.\u00a0 Hello!\u00a0 Not only are we in Paris for fashion week, we and chatting it up with the editor from Elle\u2026\u00a0 how cool are we :&gt;<br \/>\nWe sit down and the waiter was very nice and spoke excellent English!\u00a0 He did\u00a0 wink at me all of the time though\u2026\u00a0 actually lots of Paris men winked at me\u2026\u00a0 I am hoping that it is JUST a friendly gesture\u2026 as we are ordering food I look across the restaurant and spot Andy McDowell.\u00a0 At first I did not know if it was her.\u00a0 We had just see \u201cFour Weddings and a Funeral\u201d so I could recognize her.\u00a0 Now movie stars in real life do not have the advantage of all the makeup and the lighting so they look a little different.\u00a0 I was pretty sure it was her, but not positive\u2026\u00a0 I had a clear view of her and I kept looking.\u00a0 Finally I could hear her across the restaurant.\u00a0 Now how I could pick her voice out over the din of the rest of the people I am not sure, but I could.\u00a0 It was her\u2026\u00a0 such fun :&gt;\u00a0 I watched her for a while and then Marlo and I decided to take a video of her somewhat discreetly.\u00a0 We had to do this for Mr. Jeffery Roller.\u00a0 She is #1 on his LIST\u2026\u00a0 so we did.\u00a0 Of course se mocked him.. here we are, there she is and what not :&gt;<br \/>\nAfter a lovely lunch with awesome hot chocolate and really good dessert we took the bus tour.\u00a0 We saw all the sights and they dropped us at the Eiffel tower.\u00a0 We ditched them and went back towards the hotel.\u00a0 We took a bus\u2026\u00a0 we have now taken a place, a bus, a taxi, the metro and a bus\u2026 it dropped us by the arch.\u00a0 We attempted to go back to the hotel.\u00a0 We wandered a bit.\u00a0 We are in no hurry.\u00a0 We went into shops and what not.<br \/>\nThey we happened on the James Joyce Irish pub.\u00a0 I wanted to go there since we got here.\u00a0 We tossed back an pint and chatted it up with the French bartender (he looked Irish) and an Irish couple who were waiting for a bus to the airport.\u00a0 We had a lovely conversation and totally enjoyed speaking to people we could understand\u2026<br \/>\nWe want back to the hotel and napped\u2026.
